I really like Doc.
He reminds me of someone I used to know when I lived in Indianapolis. His name was Ricky, and he used to hang out with me from time to time. No sexy time, or anything, just good chats and such.
He might not have owned a bar, and he might not have been from Australia, but he was always the Mediator when things got ugly between two people. It didn’t always work out, it’s the way of life, but that didn’t stop Ricky from trying. He would beat himself up, feeling at fault if things didn’t turn out the way he hoped, and he never stopped caring about people, no matter how they acted toward him.
We lost touch when I moved to Shelbyville, but the last I heard, he finally found love, and has adopted a kid. When I found that out, I laughed. Good luck mediating between a parent and a teenager!
Anyway, it’s really fun writing this part of the script. I didn’t know where it would take place, just that it would. And the conversation isn’t over yet. Oh no, things are really going to get interesting for a while.
Oh! And I didn’t get a chance to comment on the last comic. Terry is a real life friend of mine. He lives in Columbus, and is totally the kind of bear that would hold up signs while observing some shit hitting a fan. See that Mustang on his shirt? Well, Terry is a total motor head, and when he sees a sweet Mustang on the street, his nipples perk up and the conversation is derailed.
His partner, Rob, will be in the comic at some point. I consider the two of them part of my extended family.
Well, see you all on Sunday! Don’t forget there is a comment section on this page, and the more love you show, the more the comic will grow!
